Dominions 2

If you don't know what Dominions 2 is, and you like
  1. computer games
  2. strategy games
  3. complex strategy games
  4. turn-based games
then maybe Dominions 2 is for you. Go check it on Illwinter's site (that's the developer), or Shrapnel Games' site (that's the publisher). It's very unlikely that you will find this game in your local computer games store, though. Dominions 2 runs on Windows, MacOS, Linux and Solaris systems, and isn't very resource-hungry, so if you're reading this, it's likely that your computer can run it.

I have little to offer, but you can get my own hack of dommap, a GPL program initially written by Keldon Jones to generate random maps for Dominions. This version should create maps that can be played with Dominions 2, and the original size limits have been removed (though large maps will eat up gobs of memory while generating them, will take up a lot of disk space, and will take some time, you can now go up to 3200x2400, and removing the limits is a simple matter). Not very fancy, and the maps don't look too good; I'd like to say I'll do more work on this, but I cannot promise anything. You'll need a C compiler, but this should work on most systems. Only tested on Linux, though. Current version is 1.91: it tries to assign a terrain type to each province. Sea provinces should be correctly identified as such. Please report any bugs to PhilD on the Shrapnel boards.
